West Drayton & Yiewsley

We know West Drayton and Yiewsley like the back of our hand. Let us share some of our local area knowledge with you.

West Drayton and Yiewsley are located within the London Borough of Hillingdon, to the far west of Greater London and just within the M25. If you’re looking to move to, or invest locally then we’ve put together a beginners guide to get you familiarised with what’s on offer.

Transport

One of the big advantages of living in Yiewsley and West Drayton are the excellent transport links. There are a regular network of bus routes providing access to Uxbridge, Heathrow Airport and the surrounding areas. The UK’s main international airport is located at the nearby Heathrow and access to the motorway network is exceptionally convenient via Junction 4 of the M4, or Junction 1 of the M40. West Drayton’s main line railway station also provides regular services eastwards into London Paddington (London Underground Zone 6) and westwards towards Reading, Bristol and beyond. The area’s transport links have been turbo-charged with the arrival of the Elizabeth Line in 2022, carrying commuters into the West End, The City, East End and beyond without any need to change train.

Employment

There is a wealth of employment in the immediate local area with a range of blue chip companies operating out of Stockley Business Park (Canon, Sharp, Samsonite, Hasbro & MSC Cruises) as well as Uxbridge town centre. Another major local employer is Heathrow Airport with its huge number of businesses operating both within and around to support it. Of course many locals also commute into central London via the Elizabeth Line.

Shopping

The local area is well served with eateries like Costa Coffee, Subway and a range of other local independent cafe’s. The town also benefits from a range of independent and chain stores including Wenzel’s Baker, Specsavers, Boots, Savers, Farm Foods, Pets at Home, Smyths Toys & Cake House Bakery. Supermarkets include a sizeable Tesco ‘Superstore’, an Aldi and an Iceland. A few miles north is the vibrant Uxbridge with its ‘Intu’ shopping centre offering a comprehensive range of shops and cafes. For those who want to shop ‘till they drop then a more extensive retail experience can be found at Westfield White City which is short drive away.

Leisure

In terms of leisure pursuits there’s plenty on offer locally. The nearby Stockley Business Park provides locals with a Nuffield Health fitness centre, country park and championship standard golf course and club. There are two further local golf clubs in Iver (Thorney Park Golf Club) and Richings Park. The Odean Cinema in Uxbridge is the place to go to watch all the latest Hollywood blockbusters. Locals wanting some peace and tranquility usually aim for Frays Island and Mabey’s Meadow Nature Reserve, a willow woodland offering a perfect spot to sit and watch the River Colne, and if you’re lucky, catch a glimpse of a passing kingfisher. The nearby Little Britain Lake in Cowley is also a lovely spot for a summer stroll – a safe haven for a variety of water birds. The residents of Yiewsley and West Drayton also have the benefit of two local libraries as well as Southlands Arts Centre on The Green which has art exhibitions, arts and crafts events, markets, concerts, classes and all sorts of group activities. There is also a brand new Jubilee Leisure Centre under construction which will be a great addition to the local area.

Education

There area is very well served for primary schools including West Drayton Primary School, St Catherine Catholic Primary School, Laurel Lane Primary School, St Martin’s Primary School, St Matthew’s Church of England Primary School and Cherry Lane Primary School. The area’s main secondary schools are Bishopshalt School, The Park Academy and Uxbridge High School.
